Health & Fitness FAQs & Tips

Q) I like to run a lot and I am training for a marathon. Should I lift weights or stay away from weight-training?

A) A basic resistance routine should be supplemented to your running routine. The reason weights should be lifted is that the resistance training will keep tendons and ligaments strong and also muscle acts as a shock absorber when running, so a stronger muscle will absorb more of the impact of running.

Q) Should I do resistance (weight-training) or cardiovascular (fitness-training) first in my routine?

A) It depends on your training goal. If your goal is to build muscle and strength do the resistance training first when your muscles are fresh. Cardiovascular training may tire your muscles for lifting weights.

If your main training priority is cardiovascular fitness then do your fitness training first when you have the most energy.

If your goal is a mixture try doing either first in your routine and see which suits you best. Changing the order of your routine is great for variety.
